Frequently asked questions
How the converter works, and what it can and cannot do.
- How does it work offline?
- The converter is compiled to WebAssembly and runs inside your browser, so no part of the conversion needs an internet connection once the page has loaded. Read more
- How secure is it?
- Your PDF is read on your own device and never uploaded. Nothing leaves your system, so there is no transfer to intercept and no copy of your file on a server.
- Which PDF files are supported?
- Text based PDF tables. Scanned pages and tables stored as images are not supported, because there is no text in them to extract.
- Does it support every kind of table?
- Most of them. The algorithm makes its best guess at where a table is and how it is structured. Deeply nested and irregular layouts are still being improved.
- How accurate is the conversion?
- Accurate enough for everyday spreadsheets and statements, but it is a best guess rather than a guarantee. Check anything you are going to rely on.
- Is anything stored in the browser?
- No. Your file and the pages drawn from it are held in memory only, and are gone when you close the tab.
- Is it free, and do I need an account?
- It is free and there is no account. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing for us to charge for storing and nobody for us to identify.
- How do I get in touch?
- Email help@pdftableconvert.com. If a file will not convert the way you expect, send it and we will look at it.
